The Song That Exposed a Deadly Family Lie
Chapter 4: The Brother Who Burned the Past
Victor could not move.
Marcus looked almost the same as he had twenty years ago, only sharper and colder. He wore a dark coat, expensive gloves, and the same easy smile that had once made everyone trust him.
"You died," Victor said.
Marcus shrugged. "It was convenient."
Lily hid beside Elena's bed.
Marcus glanced at her. "And there she is. The little pianist."
Victor stepped between them. "Do not look at her."
Marcus smiled wider. "You always were sentimental."
Elena struggled to sit up. "You burned the hospital."
"I cleaned up a family problem," Marcus said.
Victor stared at him. "My wife and child were a problem?"
"Your wife was poor. Your child was an heir. Father changed the trust before he died. Everything would pass to your direct child. I spent years building this family name while you played love songs."
Victor's voice shook with rage. "You let me mourn them."
"You mourned beautifully. It made you obedient."
Marcus pulled a folded document from his coat.
"Now Lily signs a guardianship transfer, Elena disappears quietly, and Victor keeps his public dignity."
Lily whispered, "I won't sign anything."
Marcus looked amused. "Children always think choice matters."
Victor moved first.
He struck Marcus hard enough to send him into the table. The lamp crashed. Lily screamed. Elena grabbed her daughter's hand and pulled her back.
Marcus recovered quickly and drew a small pistol.
"Enough."
Victor froze.
Then Lily did something no one expected.
She ran to the piano in the corner of the room, an old upright with broken keys, and slammed both hands onto the keyboard.
The same melody thundered out.
But this time, the church bells outside began to ring with it.
Marcus turned pale.
Elena whispered, "Lily, how did you know?"
The front door burst open.
Police officers filled the room.
Behind them stood Mrs. Bellamy, shaking and crying.
"I told them everything," she said.
Marcus raised the gun.
And Lily played the final note.
