The Dog Refused To Leave The Coffin... Then He Revealed A Secret Everyone Missed
Chapter 4: The Secret Emily Remembered
For the next several days, Alexander barely left Emily's side.
The man who once spent most of his life in business meetings and negotiations now cared about only one thing.
Seeing his daughter open her eyes again.
The company could wait.
The money could wait.
Everything could wait.
Because Alexander had almost lost the person who mattered most.
Bruno stayed beside Emily every day.
The dog slept near her hospital bed and refused to leave, even when nurses tried to move him away.
Everyone in the hospital knew the story.
The little girl who survived because her loyal dog refused to give up.
But Alexander knew there was still a painful truth waiting to be uncovered.
Someone had tried to take his daughter away from him.
And he needed to know why.
Three days after waking up, Emily finally opened her eyes.
The first person she saw was her father.
"Daddy..."
Her weak voice immediately broke Alexander's heart.
He grabbed her hand.
"I'm here, sweetheart."
Emily looked around the room, confused.
"Why am I here?"
Alexander took a deep breath.
He didn't want to frighten her.
But he needed answers.
"Emily, do you remember what happened that night?"
The little girl closed her eyes.
At first, she said nothing.
Then her expression slowly changed.
Pieces of that night started coming back.
She remembered being in the house.
She remembered hearing voices downstairs.
She remembered feeling scared.
Then she remembered someone walking toward her room.
Someone she knew.
Someone she trusted.
"Uncle Thomas..."
Alexander froze.
"What did you say?"
Emily looked at him with fear in her eyes.
"It was Uncle Thomas."
Alexander felt a cold feeling in his chest.
"Are you sure?"
Emily nodded slowly.
"He was angry."
"He was talking to Mr. Marco."
"He said you took everything away from him."
Alexander didn't speak.
He already suspected the truth.
But hearing it from his daughter made it real.
His own brother had been willing to destroy his family.
Emily suddenly grabbed his hand.
"Daddy."
"Yes?"
"Bruno saved me."
Alexander looked at the dog lying beside her.
"What do you mean?"
Emily smiled weakly.
"When I was scared, Bruno came to me."
"He stayed with me."
"He kept barking when someone tried to take me away."
"He never left."
Alexander looked at Bruno.
The dog quietly looked back at him.
For years, Alexander had thought Bruno was simply a loyal pet.
But now he understood.
Bruno had been protecting Emily from the beginning.
The police immediately used Emily's statement to continue the investigation.
The evidence against Thomas became stronger.
Security records.
Financial transactions.
Witness statements.
Everything connected back to him.
Thomas was arrested two days later.
But even after being caught, he showed no regret.
When Alexander saw him for the last time, Thomas only smiled.
"You think this changes anything?"
Alexander looked at him with disappointment.
"You tried to hurt your own niece."
Thomas laughed quietly.
"You always had everything, Alexander."
"The company."
"The respect."
"The family."
"I was tired of standing behind you."
Alexander shook his head.
"You weren't standing behind me."
"You were standing beside me."
"But you were too busy being jealous to see it."
For the first time, Thomas had nothing to say.
Alexander thought the nightmare was finally over.
Emily was safe.
Thomas was arrested.
Marco had confessed.
The truth had finally come out.
But that night, Alexander received a phone call from his lawyer.
His expression changed after hearing the first sentence.
"Mr. Carter, we found something in Thomas's files."
Alexander stood up.
"What did you find?"
The lawyer hesitated.
"There is evidence that Thomas was not the person who created the entire plan."
Alexander became silent.
"What are you saying?"
The lawyer lowered his voice.
"Someone else was behind everything."
Alexander looked toward Emily's room.
His daughter had survived.
But the person who wanted her gone...
Was still free.
