She Begged a Biker for Help, Not Knowing He Was...

Chapter 1 - The Woman Who Ran In

The diner door slammed open so hard the bell above it nearly snapped from the frame.

Every head turned.

A young woman stumbled inside, one hand pressed against her bleeding cheek, the other clutching the torn front of her coat.

"Help! Don't let him take me away!"

The biker, Cole Maddox, stood before he even understood why.

"Easy," he said, his voice low. "You're safe now."

Then her coat slipped from one shoulder.

A silver pendant swung forward.

Cole looked down.

The whole diner seemed to disappear.

It was a small silver wolf, scratched along one edge, hanging from a broken chain that had been repaired many times. Cole knew every mark on it. He had worn that pendant for years before giving it away to the only woman he had ever loved.

And that woman had vanished twenty-three years ago with their newborn daughter.

Before Cole could speak, the diner door opened again.

A man in an expensive suit walked in, dry despite the rain, as though someone outside had held an umbrella over him until the last second. His eyes locked on the woman behind Cole.

"She’s my wife," the man said coldly. "Stay out of it."

The woman tightened her grip on Cole’s sleeve.

Cole did not move.

His gaze dropped again to the pendant.

"Who gave you that?"

The woman looked down, confused by the question.

"My mom," she whispered, still out of breath. "It used to be my dad’s."

Cole felt something inside him crack open.

The suited man stepped forward.

"Enough. Nora, come here."

"Don’t touch her."

The suited man tried to pull free, but Cole’s hand tightened until his face twisted with pain.

"You don’t know who you’re protecting," the man hissed.

Cole looked at the woman behind him.

No.

He did not know everything yet.

But he knew one thing.

That pendant had come back to him for a reason.
