My Husband Threw My Suitcase at My Pregnant Feet

CHAPTER 2 — THE NAME ON THE DEED

Adrian’s face emptied of color.

“That’s impossible.”

Rebecca Shaw, my father’s attorney, walked up the steps and handed him the document.

The mansion had been purchased through the Olivia Monroe Family Trust three weeks before our wedding.

Adrian had never owned it.

He had only lived there with my permission.

Camille released his arm.

“You told me this house was yours.”

“It is,” Adrian snapped. “She’s my wife.”

“Not for much longer,” Rebecca replied.

She handed him a second envelope.

Inside were emergency orders protecting the property, my trust accounts and every asset purchased with my inheritance.

Adrian tore through the pages.

“You can’t freeze my accounts.”

My father stepped between us.

“We froze our money.”

That was the secret Adrian had never discovered.

His medical technology company had nearly failed three times.

Each time, an anonymous investment fund rescued it.

The fund belonged to my family.

I had persuaded my father to help because I believed in my husband.

Adrian believed investors supported him because they admired his talent.

Now every loan was being reviewed.

Every transfer would be examined.

Every lie would have a price.

“By sunrise,” Rebecca said, “you may not have a company left to control.”

Camille stepped away from him.

“Adrian, what did you do?”

He ignored her and pointed at me.

“Olivia is unstable. She hasn’t made a financial decision in years.”

Rebecca’s expression changed.

“Why would you say that?”

Adrian realized his mistake too late.

My father watched him carefully.

“Because you planned this.”

One of the lawyers opened Adrian’s abandoned briefcase.

Inside was a physician’s declaration claiming pregnancy had made me mentally incompetent.

It had already been signed.

The date at the top was tomorrow.

Attached to it was a petition giving Adrian control of my medical decisions, my unborn daughter and the entire family trust.

My father read the first page.

Then his eyes moved toward the signature at the bottom.

Dr. Samuel Vale.

Adrian’s uncle.

Rebecca found another document beneath it.

A court hearing had already been scheduled.

Tomorrow morning, Adrian intended to have me declared incapable of caring for my own child.
