He Nearly Hit the Wrong Billionaire's Son

CHAPTER 4 - The Boardroom Reckoning

The emergency board meeting was held at Reed Transportation headquarters.

Grant arrived with attorneys and demanded Jonah's immediate removal.

"He abandoned this company," Grant announced. "Now he wants to return because he needs money."

Jonah remained calm.

"I returned because you nearly killed my son."

Grant called the accident an exaggeration.

Then the screen behind him displayed footage from four neighborhood cameras.

The Mercedes was traveling nearly twice the residential speed limit. The video also captured Grant threatening Helen before the near collision.

Board members began whispering.

Grant blamed his driver.

The footage showed Grant behind the wheel.

Then Rebecca entered.

Grant stared at her.

"Go home."

Rebecca took the empty chair beside Jonah.

"No."

Her voice trembled, but it did not break.

She described the forged signatures, hidden loans and years of financial control. Independent auditors verified every document.

Grant laughed cruelly.

"She's my bitter wife. She'll say anything because I asked for a divorce."

"You told me no one would believe a woman my age starting over," Rebecca replied. "Let's find out."

Helen and twelve neighborhood residents entered next. They brought letters showing identical threats from Grant's development company.

The board froze all Mercer Heights accounts and removed Grant as acting CEO.

Financial investigators waiting outside were then invited into the room.

Grant turned toward Jonah.

"You think this makes you powerful?"

Jonah looked at his sister, his mother-in-law and the residents Grant had treated as obstacles.

"No. Power is what allowed you to hurt people for so long. Accountability is what ends it."

Grant was charged with fraud, forgery and misuse of company assets. Rebecca filed for divorce that afternoon.

The board expected Jonah to resume his old position.

Instead, he nominated Rebecca as interim chief executive, supported by independent financial supervision.

She stared at him.

"I'm fifty-two. I haven't sat in this room for years."

"Then it's time the room remembered who helped build it."

The vote was unanimous.

Rebecca accepted, but only after securing permanent protection for the neighborhood.

The woman Grant called too emotional now controlled the company he had tried to steal.
