One Bite Made the Judge Cry on Live TV
Chapter 3: The Men From the Van
Three men stepped out of the van.
They were not security guards from the show. They wore dark jackets, moved too calmly, and looked straight at Elena and Lily as if they had come only for them.
Marcus stepped in front of his sister.
One of the men smiled. "Mr. Vale, this is a private matter."
Marcus stared at him. "She is my sister."
"Not legally."
The words made Elena flinch.
Marcus turned slightly. "What does that mean?"
The man pulled out a folded document. "Elena Vale was declared mentally unfit fifteen years ago. Her care belongs to her appointed guardians."
Marcus felt cold.
Fifteen years ago, Elena had vanished after accusing their stepfather, Conrad Hale, of stealing from their mother's estate. Marcus was told she ran away. Later, he was told she died overseas.
No body.
No funeral.
Just documents.
Paper had buried her.
Marcus looked at Elena. "Conrad did this?"
Elena nodded, tears falling.
"He took everything. My name. My freedom. My child."
One of the men reached for Lily.
Marcus hit him before he could touch her.
Chaos broke out.
Crew members shouted. Phones came out. Cameras turned toward the alley. The live stream was still running from a backstage feed.
The man in charge realized too late that millions of people were watching.
Elena shoved a small notebook into Marcus's hand.
"Everything is in there," she said. "The false medical papers. The trust. Lily's birth certificate."
Marcus held it tightly.
Then Elena said the sentence that made his whole body go still.
"Lily is the legal heir to Mother's estate."
Before Marcus could answer, the man on the ground spoke into a radio.
"Bring Hale. Now."
Elena's face changed.
"Marcus," she whispered, "Conrad is here."
