One Bite Made the Judge Cry on Live TV
Chapter 4: The Man Who Buried Her
Conrad Hale arrived twenty minutes later.
He walked through the backstage chaos like a man entering a room he owned. He was older now, silver-haired and elegant, but Marcus recognized the same cold expression from childhood.
"Marcus," Conrad said. "Still dramatic."
Marcus held up Elena's notebook. "You had my sister declared insane."
Conrad sighed. "I protected the family from scandal."
"You stole her life."
Conrad's eyes moved to Lily. "And she stole something first."
Elena's voice shook. "I stole nothing. Mother left the estate to my bloodline. You forged the second will."
Conrad smiled faintly. "Accusations from a woman with a medical history?"
Marcus stepped closer. "She's not alone now."
"No," Conrad said. "Now she has a television judge and a little girl with a steak recipe. Touching. Not very useful."
Lily suddenly spoke.
"Mom said you would say that."
Everyone looked at her.
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a tiny memory card wrapped in plastic.
"She said if Uncle Marcus cried after tasting the steak, I should give this to him."
Marcus took it carefully.
Elena whispered, "It's the original recording. Mother's final will. Conrad never found it."
Conrad's face changed for the first time.
Then he lunged.
Marcus pulled Lily back, but Conrad grabbed Elena's wrist.
"Give it to me," Conrad hissed.
The stage manager's voice suddenly came over the speakers.
"Marcus, we're still live."
Conrad froze.
On the monitor behind them, his face filled the screen.
Millions were watching.
Marcus looked directly into the camera.
"Then let's play the recording."
