Whose Kids Are Those?

Chapter 3: The False Pregnancy

Vanessa quickly set the glass down.

"It was non-alcoholic."

Olivia gave a small smile. "No, it wasn't."

Daniel stepped toward Vanessa. "Are you actually pregnant?"

Her face changed.

Around them, guests had begun listening openly.

Margaret arrived from the house, furious.

"Daniel, do not let this woman destroy your engagement."

Olivia turned to her.

"You already destroyed our marriage. I only brought proof."

Margaret looked at the children with cold disgust.

"You expect us to believe those girls belong to Daniel?"

Olivia reached into the baby's bag and removed a sealed envelope.

"DNA results."

Daniel took it.

The results showed a biological match between him and both girls.

The baby was not his.

Daniel looked at Olivia, confused.

"The baby?"

"My adopted son," she said. "His mother died last year. She was my closest friend."

Margaret laughed. "How convenient."

Olivia ignored her.

Daniel read the report again, hands shaking. His daughters were five years old. He had missed their births, first words, birthdays, and every night they needed a father.

Because someone forged his signature.

He turned to Vanessa.

"You signed those papers?"

Vanessa looked at Margaret.

That small movement answered him.

Daniel's voice hardened. "Tell me the truth."

Vanessa began crying.

Margaret had promised her marriage, money, and control of the family estate. In return, Vanessa intercepted Olivia's messages, forged legal forms, and helped create the false medical records.

Daniel stared at his mother.

"You planned all of this?"

Margaret remained calm.

"I protected your future."

"You stole my children."

"You would have wasted your life on her."

One of the girls stepped closer to Olivia.

"Mommy, can we go home?"

Daniel looked down at her.

The child looked back with his own eyes.

"What's your name?" he asked softly.

"Rose."

His voice broke.

Rose was the name he and Olivia had once chosen for their first daughter.

Then Vanessa suddenly doubled over.

Guests gasped.

Daniel moved toward her, but Olivia did not.

Vanessa straightened almost immediately.

Something beneath her white dress shifted unnaturally.

The room fell silent.

Olivia stared at her.

"Take it off."

Vanessa's face turned white.

Daniel reached toward the fabric.

And a padded pregnancy stomach fell to the ground.
