The Fake Bag Exposed Her Real Family
CHAPTER 4 - The Daughter Who Refused to Lie
The hearing room was crowded.
Principal Hart sat with two teachers and the school counselor. Laura and Mia were on one side. Daniel, Vanessa, and Chloe sat opposite them.
Daniel spoke first.
He described Chloe as a frightened victim. He claimed Mia had always been jealous of his family's success.
"Mia attacked my daughter because she wanted what Chloe has."
Mia's hands tightened.
Laura touched her arm, stopping her from responding.
Daniel continued.
"The handbag was genuine. Mia must have switched it."
Chloe stared at him.
Daniel looked confident. He expected her to support him as she always had.
Principal Hart turned to her.
"Is that what happened?"
Chloe slowly placed the beige handbag on the table.
"No."
Daniel's smile disappeared.
Chloe admitted taking Mia's bag. She admitted insulting her in front of the students. She also admitted that her own handbag was fake.
"We are not rich," she said. "We have not been rich for years."
Daniel interrupted.
"Chloe, that is enough."
"No. You told me people only respect money. I believed you. Then I treated everyone without money as if they did not matter."
Vanessa began to cry.
Daniel accused her of turning Chloe against him.
Vanessa stood.
"You abandoned one daughter and taught the other to become ashamed of her own mother."
She told him she would no longer help maintain his false image.
Daniel left before the hearing ended.
The school upheld Mia's suspension because she had used violence. Chloe received a longer suspension, counseling, and removal from the student social committee.
Outside the office, Chloe approached Mia.
"I am sorry."
Mia did not answer immediately.
Chloe's eyes filled with tears.
"I was terrified you would expose me."
"So you made everyone hate me first."
Chloe nodded.
Mia looked at the sister she had discovered in the worst possible way.
"Being my sister explains why you were in my life. It does not excuse what you did to me."
"I know."
"Do you?"
Chloe wiped her face.
"I am trying to."
She asked the question quietly.
"Do you think you will ever forgive me?"
Mia picked up her old bag.
"I do not know. But this is the first honest conversation we have ever had."
