My Brother's Fiancée Was The Daughter My Mother Lost 30 Years Ago

Chapter 2: The Daughter Nobody Knew About

Nobody spoke after Ethan's confession.

My mother looked at him like she didn't recognize her own son.

"You found her?"

Her voice was shaking.

Ethan nodded.

"Yes."

"Two years ago."

My father walked into the kitchen after hearing the conversation.

"What are you talking about?"

For the first time in my life, I saw my father look afraid.

Ethan looked at him.

"Dad, it's time you tell the truth."

The silence was painful.

Because everyone knew there was something missing from our family's history.

Something nobody wanted to discuss.

Thirty years ago, my parents had a daughter.

Her name was Lily.

She was born with a small health problem.

The doctors said she needed special care.

At that time, my parents were young and struggling financially.

They made a decision they regretted every day afterward.

They allowed another family to temporarily care for her.

But something went wrong.

The records disappeared.

The people who promised to help vanished.

And my parents were told Lily was gone.

They searched for years.

But eventually, they lost hope.

Or at least, that was what they told everyone.

My mother looked at Ethan.

"How did you find her?"

Ethan looked at Claire.

"Because she was searching for us too."

Claire stepped forward.

"I didn't know who my real family was."

"I only had a few things from my childhood."

"An old photograph."

"A name."

"And this bracelet."

My mother covered her mouth.

Tears rolled down her face.

Claire looked at her.

"I spent my whole life wondering why someone gave me away."

"Why nobody came back for me."

My mother's face broke.

"We never stopped looking."

But Claire shook her head.

"Someone did."

Everyone became silent.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

Claire took out an old envelope.

"This was hidden with my adoption papers."

Inside was a letter.

The handwriting was unfamiliar.

My father took the letter.

His expression changed after reading the first few lines.

Because the letter revealed something shocking.

Lily was not accidentally separated from our family.

Someone had made it happen.

Someone inside our family.

And the person who signed the letter...

Was someone my parents trusted completely.
