That Birthmark Exposed My Husband's Seven-Year Lie

CHAPTER 2 — The Nurse Who Kept Him Alive

Alexandra ended the call.

Malcolm called again.

She ignored him and ordered her driver to take Oliver to Rose.

They found the elderly woman in a tiny apartment above a bakery. She was struggling to breathe, but the moment she saw Alexandra, fear filled her eyes.

"You finally found him."

"Oliver is my son?"

Rose began crying.

"I was a nurse at St. Matthew's when you gave birth."

Rose had been inside the nursery when Dr. Webb declared the baby dead. But Oliver had not stopped breathing.

He had been sedated.

Rose overheard Dr. Webb arranging to transfer him through a private adoption agency. When she threatened to report him, she was fired.

That night, someone left the baby outside her apartment with an envelope containing five thousand dollars.

There was no explanation.

Only a warning.

Raise him quietly or both of you will disappear.

"Why didn't you contact me?" Alexandra asked.

"I tried. Your husband answered."

Malcolm told Rose that Alexandra had suffered a breakdown and wanted nothing to do with the child. He threatened to have Rose arrested for kidnapping.

Rose reached for an old wooden box.

Before she could open it, she collapsed.

An ambulance rushed her to the hospital.

Alexandra took Oliver to a private pediatric clinic. A DNA test was ordered under police supervision.

Malcolm arrived before the results.

When Oliver saw him, the boy hid behind Alexandra.

"That's the man."

Alexandra turned slowly.

"What man?"

"He came to our apartment last week. He told Grandma Rose to give him my bracelet."

Malcolm denied everything.

He claimed Rose had invented the story for money.

Then the laboratory director entered.

"The DNA results are conclusive. Oliver is your biological son."

Alexandra stared at Malcolm.

He did not look shocked.

He looked trapped.

Detective Elena Brooks arrived and searched Malcolm's coat.

Inside one pocket, she found a receipt from Rose's neighborhood pharmacy.

It was dated six days earlier.

The receipt was for Rose's heart medication.

But someone had replaced those pills with a drug that could have killed her.
