The Millionaire's Son Stopped the Trial With One Name

CHAPTER 1 -- The Boy Who Refused to Be Silent
The judge had begun instructing the jury when nine-year-old Thomas Harrow suddenly stood.
"Hold on! Stop this!"
Every whisper inside the old London courtroom vanished.
At the defendant's table, Clara Bennett lifted her tear-streaked face. Her black-and-white uniform had been shown repeatedly during the trial, as if being a servant proved she was capable of kidnapping a millionaire's son.
"It wasn't her!" Thomas cried. "She was only trying to protect me!"
His uncle and legal guardian, Edward Harrow, seized his arm.
"Silence. Sit down!"
Thomas pulled free.
"No! You're punishing the wrong person!"
Clara covered her mouth, trembling. She had spent eleven months in custody while newspapers called her a greedy maid who had tried to abduct the sole heir to the Harrow fortune.
"Please," she whispered. "Thomas, don't."
"But she saved my life!"
"That is enough!" Edward thundered.
The judge struck his gavel.
"Mr. Harrow, release the child."
Thomas stepped into the aisle, his small body shaking beneath his gray suit.
"The real culprit is right here in this room."
The jury turned. Reporters reached for their notebooks. Edward's face lost its color.
Clara's attorney slowly rose.
"Thomas, do you understand what you are saying?"
"Yes."
"And can you identify this person?"
Thomas raised his hand.
Everyone followed the direction of his finger.
It pointed directly at Edward.
"I saw the hand that pushed her," Thomas said.
Edward forced a laugh.
"Children confuse dreams with memories."
"It wasn't a dream."
Thomas reached beneath his shirt and pulled out a thin brass key hanging from a cord.
"My mother gave me this before she died. She told me not to trust Uncle Edward."
The courtroom erupted.
Then Thomas looked at the judge and spoke the words Edward had spent two years trying to prevent anyone from hearing.
"My uncle pushed my mother from the balcony--and Clara saw him do it."
