The Pin Exposed Her Husband's Secret Son

CHAPTER 1 — The Boy With the Matching Pin
Evelyn Hart recoiled when the dirty hand touched her sleeve.
"Hey, don't touch me!"
The boy immediately stepped back.
He looked about ten years old. His denim jacket was torn, and dirt covered his cheeks, but his expression remained polite.
"Excuse me. You have the same pin."
He opened his hand.
A gold leaf brooch rested in his palm.
Evelyn stopped breathing.
Her late mother had commissioned two identical brooches for her daughters.
Evelyn owned one.
The other belonged to her younger sister, Clara.
Eleven years earlier, Clara disappeared after being accused of stealing money from Evelyn's family company. Evelyn received one final letter claiming Clara never wanted to see her again.
The letter destroyed their relationship.
Now this boy carried Clara's brooch.
"My mom said if I found this, I would find you."
Evelyn's eyes filled with tears.
"Where is your mother?"
Before the boy could answer, a black limousine stopped at the curb.
Evelyn's husband, Marcus, leaned from the window.
"Don't touch him! He's not who you think!"
Evelyn stared at him.
Marcus was supposed to be attending a business meeting across town. He had arrived too quickly.
More importantly, he looked terrified.
"You know this child?"
"No. He's probably part of a scam."
The boy's name was Noah.
He looked from Marcus to Evelyn.
His hopeful expression disappeared.
"Mom said he would lie."
Marcus stepped out of the car.
"Give me the brooch."
Noah closed his fist.
Evelyn moved between them.
"Why would a stranger have Clara's pin?"
Marcus ignored the question and ordered his driver to call security.
Noah reached into his jacket and removed a photograph.
It showed Clara lying in a hospital bed.
Beside her stood a much younger Marcus.
He was holding newborn Noah.
Evelyn's hand began to shake.
Marcus had told her he never saw Clara after she disappeared.
The photograph proved otherwise.
"Is he your father?" Evelyn asked.
Noah nodded.
Marcus grabbed Evelyn's arm.
"Get in the car. I can explain."
She pulled away.
Noah began crying.
"My mom is sick. She told me to find you before he finds her."
"Where is she?"
"At Saint Anne's free clinic."
Marcus stepped toward the boy again.
Evelyn raised her phone.
"If you touch him, I call the police."
Her husband's face hardened.
Then Noah revealed the sentence Clara had made him memorize.
"Mom said Marcus married you because your money was more important than we were."
