Amelia did not show Lily all the letters at once.
They read one every Sunday.
The earliest were filled with grief.
Today you would have taken your first steps.
Today you would have started school.
I wonder whether you would have my eyes or your father's smile.
Lily kept the letters beside Nora's photographs.
She did not have to choose between the woman who gave birth to her and the woman who raised her.
Both had loved her.
One was deceived into grieving.
The other was deceived into believing the adoption was legal.
The only person who demanded ownership had been Beatrice.
Amelia created the Nora Bennett Family Truth Foundation. It helped adults investigate suspicious adoptions and supported children reuniting with biological relatives without losing connections to loving adoptive families.
Nathan funded the foundation but did not control it.
He spent two years rebuilding his relationship with Lily and Amelia.
He attended school meetings, counseling appointments, and ordinary dinners. He never used Lily to pressure Amelia into reconciliation.
Slowly, Amelia saw the young man she once loved beneath the years of grief and obedience to his mother.
They did not restore their old marriage.
They built a new relationship.
On Lily's tenth birthday, Nathan asked Amelia if she would consider marrying him again.
He asked privately, without Lily watching.
"I don't want her to believe our family depends on your answer."
Amelia did not answer immediately.
They continued counseling for six more months.
When she finally said yes, the ceremony was held in Nora's garden.
Nora's sister attended.
Lily carried the golden watch instead of a ring pillow.

Lily looked at both parents.

Nathan knelt beside her.

Beatrice remained in prison. Amelia did not visit her.
Forgiveness was not required for healing.
Calvin's seized assets were used to repay Lily's stolen benefits. The clinic adopted new safeguards preventing a single family member from controlling infant records or private adoptions.
After the wedding, Lily placed the watch inside a glass case.
The engraved plaque read:

Amelia stood beside her, no longer grieving an empty coffin.
Nathan joined them.
The years could not be returned.
