Her Husband Chose Her Sister in the Rain

CHAPTER 1 - The Daughter in the Rain

Jessica collapsed onto the wet pavement.

Rain soaked through her dress. Mud covered its torn hem, and cold water ran down her face.

Behind her stood Michael, her husband of eight years.

Sarah stood beside him in a gold evening gown.

Jessica's suitcase lay near the mansion gates.

Only an hour earlier, Michael had announced that Sarah would replace Jessica as the public face of the company they had built.

Then he announced something worse.

He wanted a divorce.

Sarah folded her arms.

"You have nowhere to go, so stop making a scene."

Michael looked away.

He had expected Jessica to scream or beg. Instead, she stared at the man she had defended against her family for almost a decade.

Sarah was not merely Michael's new lover.

She was Jessica's younger half-sister.

Jessica took out her phone.

Her hands shook as she called the number she had refused to use for four years.

"Dad... I want to come home."

Henry Collins answered immediately.

"I'm three minutes away. You're safe now."

Sarah laughed and leaned toward Michael.

"Look at her. Finally realizing her place."

Jessica slowly lifted her head.

The despair disappeared from her eyes.

"By tomorrow night, you'll lose everything."

Michael stepped closer.

"You have no position in the company. Your father removed you years ago."

"No. I walked away."

Headlights appeared at the end of the road.

A black car stopped beside Jessica. Henry stepped out before his driver could open the door.

He was sixty-three now. His hair had turned silver, but his expression still silenced a room.

He removed his coat and placed it around Jessica.

Sarah hurried toward him.

"Dad, you do not understand."

Henry looked at Michael, then at the suitcase in the mud.

"I understand enough."

Michael attempted to smile.

"Henry, we can explain this inside."

Henry helped Jessica stand.

"You will explain it tomorrow, in front of everyone who believed you could lead my company."

Michael's face changed.

Sarah stared at her father.

"You came here for her?" she asked.
