Her Husband Chose Her Sister in the Rain

CHAPTER 3 - The Man Behind Jessica's Work

The leadership meeting began at six the next evening.

Michael entered with Sarah beside him.

Jessica sat across from them with Henry and twelve senior managers.

Michael began confidently.

He described new hotels, wealthy customers, and record profits.

Then an operations director asked how he planned to staff the new locations.

Michael gave a vague answer.

The finance director questioned his expected costs.

Michael looked toward Sarah.

She lowered her eyes.

A hotel manager asked why the plan ignored the rising number of long-term guests over sixty.

Michael could not answer.

Jessica could.

She explained that the expansion was never supposed to focus only on luxury tourism. Her original plan included extended-stay services, accessible rooms, medical transportation, and quieter floors for older travelers.

The room became silent.

One manager turned to Michael.

"Why was all of that removed?"

Michael blamed Jessica.

"She withheld information because our marriage was failing."

The operations director shook her head.

"Jessica explained this plan to us eighteen months ago. You told us the ideas were yours."

Other managers began speaking.

Jessica had solved the staffing crisis.

Jessica had persuaded two hotels not to leave the group.

Jessica had trained the regional teams while Michael attended public events.

Michael's success had not been completely false. He was persuasive and ambitious.

But he had confused being admired with being capable.

Sarah looked at him.

"You told me she contributed nothing."

Michael's composure broke.

"And what have you contributed?"

Sarah stared at him.

He continued before he could stop himself.

"You wore a gold dress and smiled beside me. Do not pretend that makes you an executive."

Sarah's face went pale.

Michael had promised they would run the company together.

Now, in front of everyone, he treated her exactly as he had treated Jessica.

Sarah stood.

"He told me Jessica was weak. He said Dad would make me his successor if I helped push her out."

Henry looked at his younger daughter.

"And you believed him because you wanted it to be true."

Sarah began crying.

Michael reached for her arm.

She pulled away.

Jessica watched the man who had divided two sisters turn against the one who remained beside him.

Sarah faced Michael.

"If you are nothing without my father's name, what are you without Jessica's work?"
