He Cut Her Hair Before the Entire Base

CHAPTER 1 - THE TRAINING GROUND
The scissors were dull.
That was what Elena noticed first.
Not the wet concrete biting into her knees. Not the soldiers standing in a rigid line with their eyes fixed straight ahead. Not even the hand twisted in her hair.

Colonel Maverson stood behind her, one hand clenched in her hair, medals bright against his uniform.
"Now you'll know your place."
No one moved.
Rain mist clung to the cold air. Boots stayed planted. Faces stayed empty. But Elena saw the truth in the soldiers' eyes. Shame. Fear. Rage carefully buried.

Maverson bent close enough for only her to hear. "You should have learned from your mother."
That hit harder than the scissors.
Elena lifted her chin, even with half her hair hacked away and rain sliding down her face.
"You'll regret this, Colonel."
A few soldiers shifted.
Maverson's smile thinned.
Then a jeep tore across the yard, brakes screaming on wet gravel. A military police captain jumped out, pale and breathless, holding a sealed folder.
"Sir," he shouted. "This order came from Madrid."
And for the first time that morning, Colonel Maverson looked afraid.
