The Silent Boy Called the Nanny Mama
Chapter 3
Adrian read everything Elena showed him.
The story was simple and terrible.
After Leo was born, Elena was kept away from the baby. The clinic staff told her Leo was too weak and needed special care. When she demanded to see him, they refused.
A few days later, Leo was taken to Whitmore House.
Elena tried to follow.
But when she reached the gate, police arrested her. Jewelry from Margaret's safe had been placed in her bag. Vanessa testified against her. She said Elena had been unstable and had planned to sell the stolen jewelry.
Elena was sent to prison.
Adrian never received any of her letters.
Elena opened a small box and showed him a bundle of envelopes. Every letter was addressed to him. None had been opened.
"Your mother made sure they never reached you," Elena said.
Adrian felt sick.
"What about the boating accident?"
"There was no accident," Elena said. "It was a story they created so you would stop looking for me."
Adrian put his head in his hands.
His mother had lied.
Vanessa had lied.
And Leo had lost his mother because of them.
"Why come back now?" he asked.
Elena looked down. "Because I saw the announcement of your engagement. If you married Vanessa, she would become Leo's legal stepmother. If anything happened to you, she could have control over him. I couldn't let that happen."
That night, Adrian returned to the estate.
Margaret and Vanessa were waiting for him in the drawing room.
Vanessa stood up first. "Where have you been?"
Adrian looked at both women.
"With Leo's mother."
The room went silent.
Margaret's face tightened. "Adrian, that woman is dangerous."
"No," Adrian said. "You made her look dangerous."
Vanessa stepped forward. "She abandoned you. I stayed."
"You helped steal my child from his mother."
Vanessa's face went pale.
Margaret slammed her hand on the chair. "Enough! Elena was not good enough for this family. She would have ruined your life."
Adrian stared at his mother.
Before he could answer, small footsteps came from the hallway.
Leo stood there in his pajamas, holding Eva's scarf.
He looked at Vanessa.
Then he whispered, "Bad lady hurt Mama."
Everyone froze.
At that moment, the butler rushed in.
"Sir," he said, breathing hard. "Miss Elena Hart has been taken."
