The Silent Boy Called the Nanny Mama
Chapter 5
Adrian could not speak for several seconds.
"Twins?" he finally asked.
Elena nodded.
"Leo had a brother. He was smaller and weaker. They took him to another room after birth. I only held him once."
Adrian looked at Leo asleep between them.
"So we have another son?"
"Yes," Elena whispered. "His name was Jonah."
The police questioned Thomas Beaumont again. This time, he admitted the truth.
After Leo was taken to Whitmore House, the second baby was quietly given away through a private adoption arrangement. Margaret had agreed to it. She thought one baby was already enough scandal. Two would raise too many questions.
The search took six weeks.
For Elena, it was painful. She had finally found Leo, but now she had to face the fact that another child had been lost.
Leo started speaking more every day. He stayed close to Elena, as if afraid she might disappear again. Sometimes he touched her face and said, "Mama stays."
Each time, Elena promised, "Mama stays."
At last, they found the second boy in a coastal town.
His name was now Jacob Hayes.
He had been adopted by a widowed schoolteacher named Mrs. Hayes. She had loved him and raised him kindly. She had no idea he had been stolen.
Adrian and Elena did not take Jacob away suddenly. They knew that would hurt him.
Instead, they met him slowly.
First in the park.
Then at Mrs. Hayes's home.
Then with Leo.
When the twins saw each other for the first time, they simply stared.
Leo pointed at Jacob.
"You look like me."
Jacob smiled a little.
"You look like me too."
That was how their family began again.
Thomas Beaumont went to prison. Vanessa disappeared from society. Margaret was removed from the family home and never again had power over Leo's life.
Months later, Adrian stood in the garden with Elena. Leo and Jacob were running across the grass, laughing.
There had been no wedding yet.
No big celebration.
Just truth, time, and two little boys learning they had never been alone.
Adrian took Elena's hand.
"The engagement party was supposed to start a new life," he said.
Elena looked at the boys.
"Instead," she said, "it ended a lie."
Adrian nodded.
And this time, when his sons laughed, no one tried to silence them.
