Who Is This Kid?

Chapter 5: The Road Home

Kilo put Ethan in the armored sedan.

This time, Ethan did not argue. He held his damaged bike wheel in his lap and watched through the tinted window as police surrounded the road.

Kane was arrested.

The men from the second Mercedes were arrested too.

By sunset, federal agents were involved.

By midnight, Harrow Capital's office was being searched.

The second team near Kilo's house never reached the gate. Bishop's men caught them with fake utility badges, stolen access cards, and a plan to enter the property while Ethan was away.

The attack had been planned for weeks.

Kane was only the loudest fool in the chain.

The man behind it was Harrow's chief director, Daniel Mercer, a polished executive who believed money could buy fear and fear could move contracts. He had not expected a seven-year-old boy to make one phone call on a country road and tear the whole plan apart.

Three days later, Mercer was arrested.

The hospital security contract was suspended.

The video from Willow Road was given to investigators, not the media. Kilo did not need the world to watch his son fall into the grass. He needed the men who planned it to never come near him again.

That night, Ethan sat at the kitchen table while Kilo cleaned the scrape on his elbow.

"Did I do something wrong?" Ethan asked.

Kilo stopped.

"No."

"I called you."

"That is exactly what you were supposed to do."

Ethan looked down. "Mr. Kane said I was calling my daddy like it was weak."

Kilo wrapped the bandage carefully.

"Calling for help when you need it is not weak."

Ethan looked at him. "Then what is weak?"

Kilo thought of Kane's fake smile. Mercer's hidden men. Rich cowards using a child as pressure.

"Hurting someone smaller because you think no one will come."

Ethan nodded slowly.

Outside, Bishop stood by the gate, watching the dark road.

Inside, Kilo pulled his son close.

For the first time that day, Ethan let himself cry.

And Kilo held him until he stopped shaking.
