The Child They Never Stopped Searching For

CHAPTER 1 - The Boy Who Calmed the White Horse

The white horse rose onto its back legs.

Adrian Vale threw himself in front of his eight-year-old daughter, Grace. She sat frozen in her wheelchair, gripping the armrests as the animal's shadow fell across her.

"Get back!" Adrian shouted. "The horse is going to fall and crush her!"

An eleven-year-old boy ran barefoot across the arena.

"Don't shout!"

Adrian stared at him.

"If you panic, he will panic too."

The boy moved slowly toward the horse. His clothes were old, and dirt covered his face, but his hand remained steady.

"Easy, my friend. No one here will hurt you."

The horse lowered its front legs.

Dust rose around its hooves.

The boy placed one hand against its face and continued speaking softly. Within seconds, the animal stopped pulling against its reins.

Grace released the breath she had been holding.

Adrian rushed to her.

"Are you hurt?"

She shook her head.

The boy examined the horse's bridle. Beneath one leather strap, he found a small piece of sharp metal pressing into the animal's skin.

"This is why he panicked," the boy said. "Someone put it there."

Adrian looked toward the stable workers.

One man immediately walked away.

Before Adrian could stop him, the boy reached beneath his shirt and removed a silver necklace with a horse-shaped pendant.

"This belonged to my mother."

Adrian stared at it.

The pendant carried the Vale family mark and the initials L.B.

Laura Bennett had been one of the finest horse trainers at the Vale estate. Eleven years earlier, she disappeared with her one-year-old son.

Adrian's family searched for them, but their estate manager, Victor Hale, claimed Laura had stolen money and escaped overseas.

The boy held out the necklace.

"My mother vanished while working for this family."

Adrian's eyes filled with tears.

"Then you... you are the child we never found."

The boy's expression changed.

"You knew my mother?"

"My name is Adrian Vale. What is yours?"

"Noah Bennett."

Adrian slowly reached for the pendant.

Across the arena, Victor saw Noah standing beside the white horse.

His face turned pale.

Then he pulled out his phone and hurried out of the viewing area.

The man who claimed Laura had fled the country had just seen her missing son return with the one object that could expose him.
