CHAPTER 4 — The Two Sisters He Underestimated

Conrad had taken Lucas through the clinic's underground parking garage.

A security guard working for him disabled the cameras and used a forged court order to remove the child.

Conrad demanded both diamond clips and Elena's bank-box evidence.

In exchange, he promised to release Lucas.

Elena wanted to surrender everything.

Victoria stopped her.

"He lied when he said you were dead. He lied when he promised to help you. He will lie again."

The sisters created a plan using their childhood code.

Elena met Conrad inside an abandoned warehouse near a private airfield. She carried the clips and appeared to be alone.

Victoria waited outside with Detective Bennett.

Conrad held Lucas beside a waiting aircraft.

He took the clips and laughed.

"Two hundred million dollars hidden inside jewelry, and neither of you understood what you owned."

The sapphires contained encrypted access keys to their father's original family trust. With both keys, Conrad believed he could permanently transfer control of the company.

But Victoria had replaced the sapphires with replicas.

The real clips were already with the police.

Conrad realized the deception and grabbed Lucas.

Victoria stepped from the shadows.

"Let him go."

"You always were the weaker twin," Conrad said. "Elena fought. You simply signed whatever I placed in front of you."

"Not tonight."

Police surrounded the warehouse.

Conrad attempted to flee toward the aircraft, but Lucas bit his hand and broke free.

Elena pulled her son into her arms.

Detective Bennett arrested Conrad for kidnapping, fraud and conspiracy. Dr. Crane was arrested at the private facility.

As officers led Conrad away, he smiled at Victoria.

"You think Elena will forgive you for enjoying the life that should have been hers?"

The words found their target.

Victoria looked at her sister.

For seven years, she had lived in comfort while Elena and Lucas were imprisoned, hunted and hungry.

Elena said nothing.

She only held her son.

Conrad had been defeated, but the sisters still had to face the years his lies had stolen from them.
